What to Do During a Power Outage

Safety steps and how to check restoration times.

Stay safe first. If you smell burning or see damaged equipment, stay away and call 000. Never assume a powerline on the ground is safe to approach.

Check if it's isolated to your property. If your neighbours have power and you don't, check your switchboard for a tripped circuit breaker. Reset by switching the breaker fully off then on. If it trips again immediately, contact a licensed electrician.

Report a network outage. If the outage affects your street or suburb, report it via the SparkStream Outages page or call our 24/7 fault line at 1800 SPARK 1. You will receive SMS or push notifications (if enabled) with estimated restoration times.

Protect your appliances. Switch off sensitive equipment like computers, TVs, and refrigerators at the wall during extended outages. When power is restored, wait 2–3 minutes before switching them back on to avoid surge damage.
